Simply Spring (OOTD)

picture831

Despite the snow last night (crazy!),  I wanted a touch of spring in my outfit today. I went with this fun, colorful top tied over my little black dress. It was still cold so I paired it with my trusty black leggings and combat boots. Simple, but still a little pop of spring with this drastically cooler weather.

picture833

What I Wore:

Shirt: Walmart
Dress: Forever 21+
Leggings: F21+
Boots: Payless

picture832

So yeah, not much else to say in this post. It seems lately as one thing dies down, another thing picks back up. Today I am finally getting some down time! Also I really am loving this weather. I love cooler spring days! (Although the snow can go away. I’ve had enough of that for the year.)

Hope you’ve had a nice week!
xoxo Gigi.

Flower Child (OOTD)

Another new dress! I got this beauty from Asos last week. It’s my first dress from there and I’m incredibly happy with it! I even got it for an amazing deal. I got it for more than half off! I feel so pretty and springy in this. Without the belt it doesn’t really have a defined waist, and it’s so fun to spin around in. The fabric is just so soft and flowy, and everything about its proportions is perfect. I can see this becoming one of my favorite dresses real fast.

What I Wore:

Dress: Asos Curve
Belt: Target
Leggings: Forever 21+
Combat Boots: Payless
Lipstick: ELF Matte Lipcolor in Natural + NYX Matte Lipstick in Hippie Chic

picture809

So yeah, there was nothing absolutely crazy about this outfit; it’s pretty straight forward. The dress is incredibly adorable and perfect for the warmer weather that is rolling in! But doesn’t that NYX lipstick have just the perfect name?

xoxo Gigi.

Blackout (OOTD)

picture790

Over spring break I kind of went dress-buying crazy. There were so many good deals, and now that I’m really sure in my personal style, online shopping is a breeze. I know what fits me well, and who sells it for the best price. I am in love with every single piece I purchased, and I can’t wait to show you all in upcoming OOTD’s!

I did notice that there is a lack of color in this outfit, but the print is loud enough. It is just incredibly flattering on my hourglass figure, though! And the neutrality gave me a chance to play up a more bright lip color. I’m really into bright purple and berry lips for this spring.

azedit1

What I Wore:

Dress, leggings, heart key necklace: Forever 21
Combat boots: Payless
Lips: Wet n Wild Megalast in Mauve Outta Here + Almay Liquid Lipbalm in Pink Pout

picture795

Yo, F21 should seriously hire me or something; I am always wearing something of theirs! I can’t get over how their skater dresses fit me so perfectly. The best part about this dress (and most of my F21 dresses) is that this will be long enough that I won’t be uncomfortable wearing it without leggings. The worst part about spring is getting accustomed to baring leg again (and battling chub rub!).

Monday was our first real taste of spring. Despite the wind, it was absolutely gorgeous outside! People are saying that it’s still cold, but high 50s/low 60s is my favorite weather. I don’t want it any warmer than this!

How are you celebrating the spring weather?
xoxo Gigi.

Stay Classic (OOTD)

picture773

On friday it was super rainy, and the temp was at a weird in-between state where I couldn’t decide which jacket I should wear. I was cold and uninspired, so I decided to go with a classic look that I’m sure you’ve seen on hundreds of teen girls (and never on me). It was comfortable and stylish at the same time, and the red lip added just a touch of glam.

This isn’t a stand out outfit by any means, but it was relatively cute and I felt good in it. That warrants a blog post.

picture777

What I Wore:

White Tee: Target
Denim Shirt: Old Navy
Black Jeggings: Zara
Boots: Forever 21+
Lipstick: NYX matte lipstick in Perfect Red

picture781

The lighting is obviously pretty crappy. The storm was really starting to roll in as I was taking these. However, somehow I got my hair and makeup to cooperate all day, despite the dreary conditions. Friday was a pretty good day overall, actually. (And I think my butt looked fantastic).

Here’s to more good days and less rainy ones (unless I can stay inside).
xoxo Gigi.

Bookish Thoughts: Beautiful Disaster

Beautiful Disaster
Jamie McGuire

Rating: 2/5

What it’s about: A really dysfunctional relationship. But in a really stereotypical college contemporary way.

What I thought:

I was totally about this book for the first 200ish pages, but then things got really weird. The story was repetitive, boring, and predictable. So many people recommended this, and it has great reviews, but honestly it was just another boring teenage love story.

The characters were kind of unrealistic; I still don’t understand what kind of person the main character Abby was supposed to be. Actually, that goes for every character. I found the back-and-forth of Travis and Abby’s relationship so tiring and annoying. I wanted to give up on the story around page 300, just after the whole Las Vegas bullshit, and I totally could have without missing out on anything. Nothing happened except for more angst and terribly written sexual tension.

The worst part was hands down the ending. It was incredibly unrealistic and made me want to gag. I really hope teen girls don’t read this and think that’s how relationships should be. (Especially the sex. Seriously, does anyone even know what foreplay is anymore?)

Everything about this story was just so bland and redundant. I’ve read fanfiction written by 13 year olds that is better. Bottom line? Don’t bother with this story. I really wanted to like it and it just pained me to finish.

Spring Beauty Haul!

picture767

With tax refund season comes haul season! I was able to get my hands on a couple of makeup items that I’ve been lusting over at the drugstore for a while! Obviously it’s not all from Bath & Body Works. That’s just the bag I had handy to hold it all. And it’s a cute bag.

picture763

Covergirl Oil Control Pressed Powder in 525 Buff Beige
Maybelline MegaPlush Mascara in Blackest Black
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

The powder and mascara were just repurchases. The Baby Skin is something I’ve been wanting to try for a while! I’ve only used it once but so far I really like how it feels on my skin, how it makes my concealer and powder go on, and how it makes my pores look!

picture761

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink
Physician’s Formula Natural Nude Shimmer Palette
Maybelline Master Hi-light Blush in Nude and Bronzer in Light Bronze

I love the Color Tattoos and I wanted this one to go with my Naked 3. Also I’ve been loving pinky/rose golds and this’ll help amp them up! I’ve been seeing a lot of people talking about both the PF and Maybelline mosaic face things. They’re all in that gorgeous rosy bronze shade and I had to have them.

picture759

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic
ELF Matte Lip Color in Natural
Milani Lipstick in Naturally Chic and Plumrose
Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Mauve Outta Here

Love me some lipsticks. I’m still on the lookout for the lighter coral color in the matte balms, but I grabbed this bright fuscia color in the mean time. It’s a little too bright for me, but I’m not giving up on it yet. I wanted to try a similar product from the ELF line so I picked up this nudey color. I also picked up my first Milani lipsticks! I got two deep rosy shades that I love. And my search for the Megalast lipstick in tea rose continues. This was the only lipstick left in the display, but I liked the shade still so I grabbed it.

picture762

Maybelline The Elixir in Blush Essence
Almay Liquid Lip Balm in Rosy Lipped, Lilac Love, and Apple a Day

Everyone’s also been ranting or raving over the Elixir lip glosses. I picked one up, but the smell really turns me off of it. The shade is okay, but I can’t get past the lingering smell. The Almay glosses, however, smell delicious and are my favorite glosses from the drugstore thus far. I’m slowly working on completing my collection. The Lilac one really surprised me! It’s pretty pigmented and makes my lips a wearable shade of that Radiant Orchid color! And Apple a Day is so perfect for a low maintenance red lip. I’m in makeup love!

picture764

Sinful Colors – Baby Blues
Wet n Wild – Private Viewing

I needed more spring pastel nail polishes. Nuff said.

picture765

Garnier Fructis Texturizing Spray
Tresemme Dry Shampoo

Since cutting my hair, I want to experiment with some loose beachy waves and curls, so I picked this up. Also, I’m trying every drugstore shampoo until I find the one that’s best for me. This is my 4th brand so far. I haven’t really tried it yet.

picture766

Bath & Body Works fragrance mist in Amber Blush

It was on sale, and it smelled fantastic, so I bought it on an impulse.

WHOO this was a pretty big haul. But I got a lot of sales and stuff so I didn’t do too much damage. A girl can never have too much makeup!!! I also did a lot of fashion shopping this week, so once all my online purchases arrive I’ll do a Try-On Fashion Haul. So stay tuned!

Happy Spring!
xoxo Gigi.

What Being a Fat Woman Is Really Like

The article Cosmopolitan published a couple weeks ago has been circulating the plus size blogosphere with force. Many gals have taken to answering the questions themselves, and I want to follow suit. I know I’m younger that most of the ladies that have done it, but I thought my readers would be interested in knowing the story behind my body and how I feel about it. So let’s get right into it!

How do you feel when other women around you complain about feeling/being fat?

I really don’t like it. I understand that each person has internal struggles with their body image, but it still gets to me. I’m always thinking, if they see themselves as fat, then what do they think of me? I just try to surround myself with people that don’t make these comments. If they do, I tell them to embrace their fluff and move on. People know me for being a jokester, so they’ll laugh at me and do just that, move on. Pretty effective, and keeps everyone in good spirits at least for a little while.

How has your body image changed since high school? College?

Ever since being on my own at college, I’ve embraced my personal style, and my body image has greatly improved. With it, my mental health and sociability have gotten better. People will love me despite my size, and if I’m confident and happy, people around me will be as well.

However, it’s obviously an on going battle. I still have really bad days both with my body and my head. I don’t think that can ever go away for anybody. It’s getting better, though, and that’s all I can hope for.

Have you tried dieting? What happened?

Actually, not really. I never stuck to anything for more than like 2 days. I just love food too much. And my dad’s an amazing Italian chef; how am I supposed to pass that up? At school I have more well-rounded options, and I definitely make a conscious decision to eat healthier, but that’s about living a healthy life, not about losing weight.

Do you think in your case your weight is partly or entirely genetic?

There’s a pretty good possibility. Thyroid problems are prevalent on my mom’s side, and most women on my dad’s side are big and strong. I come from big, beautiful Italian women, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Do you consider yourself healthy? Have there been instances where people assumed you were unhealthy?

Like I said, I’ve been making sure I make healthy choices. However, I love rich and fried foods, and you can’t get me to give them up. With colorguard I’m pretty active, but I could probably stand to make more time for the gym. But that just really doesn’t appeal to me, and I’d rather be plump and happy rather than thin and stressed.

Are your parents both supportive of you at the weight you’re at? Have they always been?

They never seemed to have a problem. Like previously mentioned, I come from two families of strong Italian women who appreciate food. It’s kind of expected. I think they care more that I’m healthy and happy.

How do you think retailers can improve clothes for plus-size people?

I just wish I knew how it felt to walk into a store, see something I like, pick out my size, and buy it. That just doesn’t exist for girls of my size. I have to search online for hours just to find something cute in my size that I can afford. Yesterday I went to Target and was incredibly annoyed with the fact that there were practically no 2x’s in stock. It’s frustrating to have a personal style that no one seems to make clothes for. And if you’re a fat girl that likes trendy/edgy clothing? Well then you’re completely shit out of luck because that just doesn’t exist in our size.

Also… one size fits all sweaters and leggings?! Yeah, no.

Do you think plus-size women are judged differently than plus-sized men are? How?

You see a fat guy lounging with no shirt on at the beach? No problem! You see a fat girl lounging in a two piece at the beach? Ew how dare she! I don’t feel like getting into this. It’s just disgusting how judgemental people can be.

Do you think there’s an assumption made/stereotype that exists about plus-size people? How would you respond to it?

People think we’re lazy, unattractive, unsuccessful, that we lack self control… The list goes on and on. I know plenty of girls that are sexy and successful all while rocking their curves. I have plenty of friends, and I’m doing extremely well both in and out of school. Every person is different. No one else dictates how I live my life. Stereotypes practically exist to be broken.

Do you think there’s ever a right way or time to express concern about someone’s weight?

I say it’s better to just mind your own business.

What are the worst things people have said to you about your body?

Back in middle school I was called every name in the book. In high school it was never really directly said to me; it was more snickering behind my back as I walked past a table. However, it never really got to me. Sure on bad body days they echo in my head, but overall, I couldn’t care less about those people who have nothing else better to do than call a girl out on something she sees everyday in the mirror.

What have people said (or do you wish they’d say) that would compliment your body or appearance?

Since about senior year of high school, I’ve been getting a fair share of compliments. When I wear a nice outfit or do my hair pretty or take time to do my makeup, there’s always a handful of people who comment on it. I’ve surrounded myself with people who genuinely care about me and think highly of me. It does wonders for one’s self esteem.

Do you find yourself hanging out with women who are closer to your size?

Actually no. I have a lot of friends, and they all vary greatly in body types and sizes. I don’t care about someone’s appearance. I care about whether or not they’re an asshole.

How has your weight affected your sex life, if at all?

Oh boy.

I don’t have a sex life as of yet. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with my weight. I’ve never been in a relationship, and I’ve never been in an intimate situation. This really doesn’t bother me though. I like being independent and not having to worry directly about anyone other than myself.

When you’ve been single, has your weight affected your dating life?

It might. I’m sure there have been people that have been attracted to my personality, but my appearance held them back. I’m not really looking for a relationship though, so I can’t say I’ve been directly rejected recently. There was an ongoing… something or other… with someone, and I think my appearance made him uncomfortable. Sucks for him, I’m an amazing gal.

Do you feel weird if the guy you’re with only dates larger women?

Not really? A guy likes what he likes I guess. Nothing wrong with that. Just so he treats me well and doesn’t objectify me. You wouldn’t judge a guy for dating only skinny girls, so why would it be different for fat girls? Each person is different, and choosing to be in a relationship with someone goes past their physical characteristics.

Do you feel weird if he’s only dated slimmer women before you?

Nope. Obviously I’m fabulous enough to have broken their streak. I take that as a compliment!

———–

So that’s it! This did get a little TMI, but I have nothing to hide. This is my fat life and I’m embracing it!

xoxo Gigi.

Springing Forward (OOTD)

picture740

Last Tuesday, the weather was beautiful and I wanted to celebrate with this simple and springy outfit. It’s one of my go-to looks with some of my go-to pieces. Nothing special here, just felt like sharing.

Also, if anyone knows where I can find basic shirts like this that aren’t v-neck PLEASE help a girl out and let me know! Old-Navy doesn’t sell them anymore, and at Target all I can find are v-neck. These are my favorite layering shirts and it makes me sad to not be able to get any.

picture742

What I Wore:

Dress: Forever 21+
Top: Old Navy
Leggings: F21+
Saddle Shoes:  Payless

I sure hope there’s some more mild weather in the future! I’m a huge lover of cold weather, but lately I’ve just been craving spring and summer. I can’t wait! I guess for now I’ll just enjoy my cold spring break.

How to Remix a Green Dress (St. Patty’s Day OOTD!)

picture737

I love this simple knit green dress, and it’s in the perfect shade for St. Patty’s Day! However, just wearing a plain green dress can be a little boring for us fashion lovers, so here’s a couple of ways you could spice it up! They’re all pretty simple, since I’m a minimalist when it comes to my personal style, so just keep in mind that you could do even more to jazz up your holiday outfit!

The green dress is from Target and the leggings are from Forever 21+. Although I didn’t include shoes, I would recommend black combat boots or maybe some cute black and white saddle shoes!

simpleedit

Simple Accessories

If you want the green dress to really be the stand out piece, then try complimenting it with a simple but unique accessory. This is an antique pocket watch that I found online for super cheap. I love the super long chain, and it adds a little bit of vintage glam to any outfit!

picture730

Dress it Down

This is how I chose to wear the dress a little while ago.  I like wearing loose, comfy button downs over my dresses to make them a bit more casual. This chambray shirt adds another color without competing with the vibrancy of the dress, and the rolled up sleeves give it a laid-back appearance. I really love this combo!

picture727

Colorblocking

This is probably my favorite out of the three. I always love using my tops to remix dresses and add different aspects to my  outfits. I picked this royal blue to play off the deepness of the green. The two primary colors compliment each other perfectly. If you were feeling especially vibrant, you could keep the primary colorblocking look going by wearing red or yellow shoes!

These are just a couple of quick ways you can mix up your St.Patty’s day look. I’m pretty sure this dress can still be found in store at Target, so try to snatch it up if you can! It’s a perfect addition to anyone’s wardrobe.

Which look is your favorite?
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
xoxo Gigi.

Back to Basics (OOTD)

picture723

I didn’t dress up much the past couple of weeks, but I did rediscover my collection of cute shirts! In high school all I really wore was band/ironic t shirts with jeans (although I still wear that a lot), so when I wanted to start being more fashionable, the logical first step was cute graphic tops. I still love a soft and comfy tee over some leggings or skinnies. It’s my go to look for when I’m not feeling up to putting a whole outfit together. I also love to throw these on top of dresses for a quick remix! They’re just really versatile and comfortable, so they remain a fun staple in my wardrobe.

(Excuse the messy room.)

What I Wore:

Shirt: Walmart
Cami: Aeropostle
Leggings: Forever 21+
Boots: Payless

A quick post for a quick outfit. What’s your go-to comfy outfit?
